Finals Preview :
We’re down to the last two matches at St George’s – Gina Kennedy v Jasmine Hutton and Sam Todd v Simon Herbert for the British Nationals titles.
The women’s final pits two former champions together. Top seed Gina is appearing in her third final having been runner-up in 2021 and champion in 2024 – she was top seeded last year but had to withdraw through injury. Second seed Jazz also missed last year, and this will be her fourth final after being runner-up in 2020 and champion in 2022 and 2023.
Ranked 8 and 12 in the world, Gina leads their H2H 8-2 but the last four meetings – including the 2023 semi-final here – have been shared 2-2.
Fourth and fifth seeds Sam and Simon will contest an unexpected men’s final with the top three seeds all departed – Sam beat top seed Marwan ElShorbagy in the semis while Simon ousted third seed Curtis Malik in the quarters – and for both of them this is the first time they’ve progressed beyond the quarters.
Sam is 5-0 ahead on previous meetings, including a 2020 Nationals qualifying match, but none of those wins have been straightforward and at 37 and 56 in the world rankings today’s match is unlikely to be either.
